Hut Rules

The following general rules apply to all Rucksack Club Huts

  1. Dogs and other animals are not allowed in any of the Club Huts. Those belonging to Rucksack Club members (not temporary members as defined in Rule 7) are permitted within the grounds of the huts, provided that they remain under the full control of the owner, and do not cause offence to any other member present. A similar requirement is placed on members bringing animals on Outdoor Meets
  2. Members intending to use the hut should contact the Warden in advance to confirm that there will be vacant bunks and to ascertain whether all facilities will be available. It is essential that clearance be obtained if the party is to include children.
  3. Any party arriving without having made prior arrangements with the Hut Warden must be prepared to give way to those who have booked bunks beforehand.
  4. Members may not introduce personal guests unless prior permission from the Hut Warden has been received, or from the Meet Leader if a meet is being attended.
  5. Smoking in the huts is prohibited.
  6. Radios, televisions, etc. are prohibited at all times.
  7. The standard club hut key, which may be hired from the Club Secretary for a non-returnable fee of £10, gives access to the three huts.
  8. The following overnight fees apply to all three Huts:
    Members, and members spouse/partner £4.00
Members' children aged under 18 £2.00
    Kindred Club menbers £5.00
    Temporary members £8.00
    Temporary members under 18 £4.00

NOTE THAT THERE ARE NO LOCAL KEYHOLDERS FOR ANY OF THE CLUB HUTS

Inter-Club Hut Arrangements

  1. Key holders should not be disturbed after 9.00 pm. If a late arrival is expected, a key should be obtained when booking.
  2. The Club enjoys reciprocal rights with:
    • Climbers' Club
    • Derbyshire Pennine Club
    • Fell & Rock Climbing Club
    • Gritstone Club
    • Junior Mountaineering Club of Scotland
    • Midland Association of Mountaineers
    • Mountain Club
    • Pinnacle Club
    • Scottish Mountaineering Club
    • Wayfarers' Club
    • Yorkshire Ramblers' Club
This normally entitles members to pay fees at a lower rate than ordinary guests and acceptance of bookings if space is available. Additionally members of the Manchester University Mountaineering Club are eligible for Kindred Club rates in the Rucksack Club Huts.
  3. It is essential that members should acquaint themselves with the Hut Rules (which are posted up in each hut), and that they should strictly adhere to the conditions attaching to the use of huts belonging to kindred clubs. The Committee will take a serious view of any failure to do so.
  4. Application for use of huts should be made direct to the hut warden concerned, unless otherwise shown, and his written authority should be produced when collecting keys.
  5. Sheet sleeping bags may be required.
